Privacy Policy
What data we process, why, and the rights you have.
This policy explains what personal data WebRadioRadar processes, why, and what rights you have. It is written to meet the requirements of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and German data protection law.

What we process and why
Visiting the site (server logs)
When you open WebRadioRadar, our hosting provider automatically records technical data your browser sends: IP address, date and time, the page requested, referrer, user agent. This is necessary to deliver the site and keep it secure. Legal basis: Art. 6 (1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in a stable, secure service). Logs are deleted or anonymised after a short retention period.
Listening to streams
When you press play, your browser connects directly to the broadcaster's streaming server to receive the audio. That server is operated by the respective station, not by us, and will receive your IP address as a technical necessity of streaming. The station's own privacy policy applies to that connection. We may store an anonymised, hashed record that a play occurred (without storing your raw IP) to produce aggregate listener counts. Legal basis: Art. 6 (1)(f) GDPR.
Preferences (local storage)
We store small values in your browser's local storage to remember your choices — light/dark theme, the last genre filter, and your cookie/consent choice. This data stays on your device and is not sent to us. It is technically necessary for the features you use (Art. 6 (1)(f) GDPR), or based on your consent where applicable (Art. 6 (1)(a) GDPR).
Broadcaster accounts
If you register a station, we process the data you provide: your email, a securely hashed password, your station's name, stream URL, homepage URL, genre, country and description. We use it to operate your listing, verify your stream and the required backlink, and contact you about your account. Legal basis: Art. 6 (1)(b) GDPR (performance of the listing agreement) and Art. 6 (1)(f) GDPR (running a fair directory). We keep account data for as long as your listing exists and delete it on request once no legal retention obligations remain.
Contact by email
If you email us, we process your message and contact details to handle your request. Legal basis: Art. 6 (1)(b) or (f) GDPR. We keep the correspondence as long as needed to deal with your enquiry.
Cookies and analytics
We use only essential storage by default. We do not load non-essential analytics or advertising trackers unless you accept them via our cookie notice. You can change your choice at any time through “Cookie settings” in the footer.
Fonts
The site loads web fonts from Google Fonts. When a font is requested, your IP address is transmitted to Google. We use this to present the site consistently (Art. 6 (1)(f) GDPR). See Google's privacy information for details.
Hosting
The site is hosted on a server located in Germany. Our hosting provider processes data strictly on our behalf under a data processing agreement (Art. 28 GDPR).
Recipients & transfers
We do not sell your data. We share it only with processors who help us run the service (e.g. hosting) and where required by law. Streaming connections go directly to broadcasters as described above.
Your rights
- Access to the data we hold about you (Art. 15 GDPR).
- Rectification of inaccurate data (Art. 16 GDPR).
- Erasure (Art. 17 GDPR) and restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR).
- Data portability (Art. 20 GDPR).
- Objection to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21 GDPR).
- Withdrawal of consent at any time, without affecting prior processing (Art. 7 (3) GDPR).
- Complaint to a supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR) — for us, the data protection authority of North Rhine-Westphalia.
